Alex McLeish described Luis Suarez as 'perpetual motion' after watching the Uruguayan torment his Aston Villa defence during Sunday's defeat to Liverpool.

The Reds striker was a constant menace throughout a one-sided affair at Villa Park, twice hitting the woodwork as the visitors ran riot.

The former Ajax man may not have troubled the scoresheet during Kenny Dalglish's team's 2-0 victory - but McLeish was still full of praise for his overall performance.

"Suarez is perpetual motion, he's a brilliant player," said the Scot. "Suarez can slip into holes that other players leave, he is a very elusive player.

"He is non-stop and has been a fantastic signing for Liverpool."

On his team's inability to handle Liverpool's attacking prowess, McLeish said: "Sometimes the determination and the will can overcome the skill, which Liverpool had in abundance.

"But in the end, Liverpool had too much nous and experience and players who can make a difference."
