'Let's end Wigan hoodoo'
Martin Skrtel is hoping Liverpool can continue their excellent form on the road in their final away game of 2011 when they bid for a first win at Wigan Athletic for three years on Wednesday night.
The Reds have not won at the Latics since Yossi Benayoun's winner 15 minutes from time in September 2007. Since then there have been two draws and one defeat.
However, Kenny Dalglish's side have been excellent on their travels this season winning nine games on away turf in the Barclays Premier League and Carling Cup.
With nine points to play for before the end of 2011, the Slovakian international insists the team have a great focus to achieve their targets.
"The Christmas period is very important for every single team and our aim is to get back maximum points from every game we play," said Skrtel.
"You know you are always in for a difficult game when you play away against a team like Wigan, Stoke or Bolton, because they have a similar style of playing.
"We will have to fight hard to get the victory and they got a good point on Saturday when they drew with Chelsea.
"I think we are due some good fortune away at Wigan. We have to break this barrier of not winning there for three years and hopefully this could be a good time to do it.
"I don't know why results have been better away from home but our aim always is to try and win every game.
"I think we have played really well overall at Anfield but sometimes haven't got the results our performances have deserved.
"We are still creating a lot of chances and we hope to score more goals in the future."
The Reds will be roared on by a big away following at the DW Stadium from the travelling Kop, and Liverpool's No.37 said the team will be going all out to reward them for their loyal support.
He added: "It does feel like a home game playing at Wigan because it's not far to travel and we always have a large number of supporters with us.
"Our fans are always with us and hopefully we can reward them with a victory and another good performance."
Skrtel also spoke about how much he enjoys the busy Christmas period which is a sharp contrast to what he was used to at his previous club FC Zenit.
He added: "There is a lot of games and it is totally different to what I was used to before I came to England, but I enjoy it.
"My family are coming over for Christmas and they will be at Anfield when we play Blackburn on Boxing Day, and are looking forward to it."
