Kenny Dalglish admitted he was disappointed not to see Liverpool take all three points following a 0-0 draw with Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium - and reiterated that everyone at the club is in full support of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez.

The Reds were forced to settle for a draw following an open contest on Wednesday night in which both sides created chances to score.

However, it was the visitors who finished the stronger and though frustrated not to have claimed a win, Dalglish was satisfied with the overall performance of his players.

The boss told his post-match press conference: "Obviously we were disappointed not to come away with the three points. We started really well for 20 minutes, they got back in it a wee bit, but I think in the second half we controlled the game.

"We made a few chances, they had a few efforts at goal as well, but I think overall we are happy with the performance. It's a hard-fought draw to come here and get a point.

"As I said, the first 20 minutes, when the pitch wasn't too bad, was when we played our best football. The longer the game went on, the more difficult it was for us to play the way we like to play.

"But they (the players) kept getting in there, kept going and even right at the death they wanted to get the three points, which left us a wee bit exposed at the back.

"That's a fault we can correct, but at the end of the day you can't fault people's determination and efforts. They were a credit tonight with the effort they put into the game. "

Liverpool had a golden opportunity to take the lead on 51 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Gary Caldwell handled Suarez's overhead kick.

However, Ali Al-Habsi saved Charlie Adam's spot kick to cap an inspired display by the Wigan goalkeeper.

"We look for positives and I think the way we played was positive," added Dalglish. "We'd love to put all the chances away, or a higher percentage of them than what we do, but we'll keep making them and see what happens.

"We'll just keep going, do what we do well and continue like that."

Adam's miss was the fourth time Liverpool have been off target from a penalty this season, with Suarez, Dirk Kuyt and Andy Carroll also having previously failed to find the back of the net from 12 yards.

However, Dalglish believes the Reds can take heart from the fact they are getting into areas to win spot kicks.

He said: "You're not cheering when you miss a penalty kick, are you? That's four (misses) but we must be doing something right if we keep getting in the box and being awarded them.

"We'll continue to try and get into the box as often as we can. Nobody has ever missed a penalty deliberately!"

Meanwhile, journalists asked Dalglish for his view on the performance of Suarez.

The manager responded: "We've no complaints whatsoever with any of the players - they all played very well.

"We stand right beside him, as we always have done and we always will do, and I think that's reflected in the reception he got from the fans and also in the support the players showed towards him as well."
