Kenny Dalglish admitted he was left frustrated by Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers – but insisted he was satisfied with the efforts of his players on the day he welcomed Steven Gerrard back to action.

Despite having dominated posession, the Reds fell behind on the stroke of half-time when Charlie Adam diverted a corner from the visitors into his own goal.

However, Liverpool rallied in the second half and restored parity courtesy of Maxi Rodriguez's close-range header in the 53rd minute.

The hosts pressed for a winner and created several opportunities, but were ultimately forced to settle for just a point as the Rovers rearguard held out.

"My reflection on the game is the same as what it's been after a few other games here," Dalglish told his post-match press conference at Anfield. "We did more than enough to have won and created more than enough chances to have won.

"The performance could have been a touch better, but I've no complaints about it, and with the opportunities we created, we've got no complaints.

"But once again we've not converted a good enough ratio of the chances we've made and the goalkeeper has made a fantastic save at the end along with a few others as well.

"Most of the things we do we do very well and do them right. A bit of luck, maybe a bit more belief in ourselves and a goalkeeper coming here and having a nightmare would be helpful to us - but we can't control the goalkeeper having a nightmare, we can only control ourselves.

"If we get our chances on target, it's up to him to save them - and he did save most of them today. We'll continue getting in there, making chances and playing the way we have been."

Liverpool's players were left holding their heads in their hands deep into stoppage time when Blackburn goalkeeper Mark Bunn produced an incredible save to keep out Andy Carroll's goal-bound header.

From the resulting corner, Daniel Agger's effort was hacked off the line by Adam Henley to ensure the visitors took a point back to Lancashire.

Dalglish said: "The 'keeper made a great save from Andy. It could have been a push on Daniel Agger, but the goalie made a fantastic save. It comes in (from the corner) and somebody clears it off the line.

"The most important thing for us is the attitude of the players - that in the last minute, they are still pushing and determined to try and get a winner. That is what the teams at Liverpool have always done and it's nice to see they've got the same trait as that.

"It didn't do the club any harm in past years, and I don't think it will do us any harm to have the same attitude as well."

He added: "The team's performance wasn't faultless, but there would have been a lot of people happy with a performance like that from their team."

One positive note for Liverpool was the return to action of Gerrard following an ankle infection.

The No.8 was introduced into the action with 21 minutes remaining to make his first appearance since late October.

Dalglish said: "He's done really well in training, he looks really fit and he needs some time on the pitch now just to get back to full fitness.

"The difficulty for us was deciding who to take off. It wasn't as if we were playing poorly. Usually if you're struggling a bit you can see you've got two or three options, but there wasn't really anyone that stood out that deserved to be taken off.

"We had to do something to try and win the game, and we made two substitutions with Stevie and Bellers (Craig Bellamy) - and with a bit of good fortunte we probably would have won the game."
