Craig Bellamy has spoken for the first time about how establishing a children's charity in Sierra Leone has helped transform his life.

In a documentary to be shown on ITV4 at 9pm GMT tonight, the Liverpool striker reveals why he feels so committed to helping youngsters in a country still recovering from a brutal civil war.

The Welshman said: "I've never done a documentary before, I felt totally out of my comfort zone but it was something that had to be done.

"I'm a private man - who you see on the pitch is not who I am off it - so making this has been a learning experience for me as well."

Established in 2007, the Craig Bellamy Foundation is a charity offering under-privileged children in Sierra Leone the chance to reach their potential through sport and education.
