Gerrard: We want to win it for you
Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool owe it to their supporters to be celebrating Carling Cup glory at Wembley this weekend.
With the Reds looking to end their six year wait for a trophy, the skipper is determined to put smiles on the faces of Kopites all over the world by lifting the trophy above his head on Sunday afternoon.
"It's going to be a great occasion for the supporters," Gerrard said.
"They've waited long enough for a day like this. It's been a difficult few years but they have stuck with us and been brilliant.
"We know what the fans want and it's up to the players to give it back to them. I don't need to tell Liverpool fans how to make noise - I know they will be right behind us on the day. We've got to give everything for them.
"They deserve a trophy."
Liverpool will begin as odds-on favourites to lift the trophy, but Gerrard knows from experience that they can't afford to take anything for granted against their Championship opponents.
"We experienced that with Birmingham in 2001 and with West Ham in 2006. They were very difficult games and we had to dig deep to come through them," he said.
"Cardiff are dangerous opposition. It's the game of their lives. They will raise their game and they will perform at a level they haven't performed at before.
"If our standards slip then we'll be in for a tough afternoon. We must approach the game in the right way. If we perform to the level we know we can then we should come out as winners.
"But we've got one giant hurdle left to get over. It's very important we focus and give everything we have got to get this trophy.
"I want to walk up those steps and lift the Cup above my head."
