U18s keep title hopes alive
Liverpool U18s continued their charge for the Academy Group C title with a convincing 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
First half goals from Jordan Lussey, Jack Dunn and top scorer Adam Morgan made sure of the three points for Mike Marsh's charges, while Tom Rowbotham netted a late second half consolation for the Owls.
With five games left to play the U18s are in second placed behind Manchester City, so the race for the title is still very much alive.
Marsh's side were outstanding in the first half. Lussey opened the scoring after 13 minutes from a free-kick straight from the training ground. Dunn rolled the ball short to Morgan who set up Lussey, and the midfielder found the net.
It was 2-0 after 35 minutes when a fantastic turn from Morgan down the right wing saw him set up Dunn who fired home.
Morgan then got a deserved goal himself when he fired into the net from Lussey's pass.
Jakub Sokolik and Kristoffer Peterson might have added more in the second half, but Rowbotham scored a late penalty after Nathan Quirk blocked a cross with his arm.
Liverpool team: Stephens, Hatch, Regan, Rafferty, Sokolik, Baio, Ibe, Dunn, Morgan (Nacho 45), Peterson (Gainford), Lussey (Quirk). Unused subs: Belford, Mukendi.
