Kenny Dalglish is hoping Liverpool's derby demolition of Everton in midweek will prove to be the catalyst for better luck in front of goal over the rest of the season.

After a campaign blighted by missed chances, especially at Anfield, the boss was thrilled to see Steven Gerrard grab the first derby hat-trick in thirty years as the Reds warmed up for today's FA Cup quarter-final clash with Stoke in some style.

And with Luis Suarez playing provider for two of the skipper's three strikes on the night, there were plenty of reasons for Dalglish to be upbeat about the challenges which lie ahead for his side.

"We see it in training every day. If those two are playing together, they have a good understanding of each other because they are two intelligent footballers," he said.

"I know Stevie praised Luis for his contribution against Everton and I can only endorse that.

"But that is not to say those two are on a different planet to nine others.

"It's not just the two of them. They all benefit from each other and the better your passing is, the better you retain the ball and the better chance you have of creating chances.

"The first thing to do is create the chances, the second is to believe we are good enough finish them off and the third thing is to put them away.

"You can go out in training and everything is fine and then you go into the match and there is nothing going in.

"We'll keep pushing ourselves forward and asking the question how to solve it."
