Kenny's post-match verdict
Kenny Dalglish admitted it was an afternoon of frustration for Liverpool as his side slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.
A Papiss Cisse brace secured the three points for the home team, and the Reds' suffered further disappointment when Pepe Reina was shown a late red card following an altercation with James Perch.
Earlier in the contest, with the scoreline still goalless, Liverpool had strong penalty appeals waved away when Andy Carroll's goal-bound effort was blocked on the line by the arm of Danny Simpson.
Dalglish told his post-match press conference at the Sports Direct Arena: "We started well enough, passed and moved and looked pretty threatening, but obviously it ended up with a lot of frustration and disappointment.
"I think the frustration and disappointment were a result of the actions Pepe took when he got a deserved red card, and also when Andy (Carroll) came off and went up the tunnel he was disappointed with the way the game's gone, not necessarily for himself but for the team. The frustration takes him up into the dressing room.
"We don't have a problem with people showing their disappointment or frustration, but we need to channel it better than we have done.
"We could have had a penalty kick in the first half and that would have been them down to 10 men, but we never got it.
"We've just got to carry on with ourselves. We'll try and remain calm and try to sort out the problems we have to get ourselves back in the way we want to be playing.
"There were lots of times we did create openings, but we've got to take them. We've got to believe in ourselves and believe in what we're doing. If we can do that, then we'll have a better opportunity."
Carroll was booked inside 10 minutes by referee Martin Atkinson after going down under a challenge from Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul.
Dalglish continued: "We've no qualms about when Andy went down under the goalkeeper either. I thought it wasn't a penalty kick and that Andy was losing his balance anyway before he reached the goalkeeper, and so if he had got past him I think he would have fallen over.
"We don't have a problem with that. Maybe we have a problem with the yellow card because I don't think he was intentionally trying to get a penalty kick."
Asked if he had an opportunity to speak to Reina following the final whistle, Dalglish replied: "He feels a bit of remorse."
On whether his side were suffering from a problem with confidence, the manager said: "I don't think so. I think we've just got to stick together.
"I think you'd admit yourself, some of the football we played in the first half was good and exciting. With a wee bit more luck and composure, we could have been in front. The first goal we lost we can learn from.
"They'll stick together because they want to get it right - and the best way to do it is to stick together and believe in what they're doing.
"It's not as if they don't work hard, it's not as if they don't have the determination and effort to put it right.
"It's up to us to harness the frustration and disappointment properly, work on it and take it as a positive because if they start to enjoy losing games, we'd have a problem."
