Martin Skrtel has already surpassed his goals target for the season – but he is determined to add to his tally before the end of the current campaign.

The Slovakian has netted four in all competitions including a crucial equaliser in the Carling Cup final at Wembley.

Strikes against Bolton in September and Aston Villa in December were followed by an opener in the Reds' 6-1 FA Cup fifth round victory over Brighton in February.

"It's the most I've scored in a season because usually I don't get too many," Skrtel told LFC magazine. "I think I got one in my second full season here, then I got two.

"So I wanted to get three this season. I've got four at the moment and I'm happy with that.

"My strike against Cardiff wasn't the nicest goal but it was special to score in a final at Wembley. My friends were very happy for me, they all congratulated me. I got a lot of text messages and BBMs too."

Skrtel's first Liverpool goal came against Manchester City at Anfield in November 2009.

Almost exactly a year later he struck to give the Reds the lead against Tottenham at White Hart Lane before the home side scored twice to edge the game.

The No.37 was also on the mark during a 2-1 defeat against West Brom at the Hawthorns in April 2011.

But the centre-back admits he doesn't know what has prompted his new-found prolificacy in front of goal this season.

"In the past I've got into decent positions and not taken the chances," he explained. "Maybe I've had more luck this season because I've been able to take them."

Meanwhile, Skrtel admits he is relishing the prospect of a return to Wembley for a mouth-watering semi-final which has divided loyalties on Merseyside.

"I wanted it to be Everton," said the No. 37. "I've played in lots of derbies now and having a Merseyside derby at Wembley will be brilliant.

"I've played in some great stadiums like the Santiago Bernabeu, the Emirates, Wembley. I would probably go for Wembley as my favourite, it's a special place for me."
