Brad Jones admitted it was a special moment for him to play for Liverpool at Wembley and help the team reach the FA Cup final.

Deputising for the suspended Pepe Reina, the Australian stopper was only making his fourth run out for the club - and in doing so, he made history.

His start as Liverpool's last line of defence at Wembley made him the first Reds player to make his first four appearances in four different competitions.

Jones told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It was brilliant to walk out at Wembley for Liverpool and it was a special day. That's another dream of mine ticked off now and it was a proud moment.

"It's fantastic the boys now have another chance to come back to Wembley and hopefully win another trophy."

Jones admitted he had some pre-match nerves but was quick to pay tribute to his teammates for helping him play his part in a memorable victory.

He added: "I was nervous before the game as I haven't played a lot of football and this season has been quite difficult on and off the pitch so I had to make sure the first thing I did in the game was alright and by the end of the game I felt quite confident and I am happy with the win.

"Everton have got a good front line but they didn't have that many chances and that's a credit to the boys. It was only towards the end when they had some aerial threat but the boys did well to keep the ball away from me.

"It's more about concentration when you don't have that much to do and I'm absolutely buzzing with the result.

"I've trained as hard as I can and trained hard with John Achterberg and Pepe (Reina) so if there's a problem then I have been the person to step in, but that's what you are here for."

At the final whistle Jones sank to his knees to look up to the skies in memory of his son Luca, who tragically passed away in November 2011 following a long battle with leukaemia.

He dedicated his penalty save at Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday to the memory of Luca and he is always in his thoughts.

He said: "Every time I walk out onto the pitch I think of Luca and I just like to make him proud. He was never without his football shirt when I was with him so that was for him and he always used to look out for me, and I'm sure he's done the same today."
