A dedicated group of Liverpool supporters were applauded into Anfield on Saturday after they completed a 76-mile run in memory of the 96 fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough.

The aim was to run from Sheffield to Liverpool in three days and Liverpoolfc.tv were with the team as they began their gruelling journey from Hillsborough on Thursday. Our cameras were also on hand to greet the group when they finally reached Anfield on Saturday.

The six runners covered 30 miles from Sheffield to Hyde on Thursday. The following day they ran a further 30 miles to Widnes. And on Saturday it was the home stretch as the runners and their support team completed the final 16 miles to arrive at the Hillsborough Memorial on Anfield road.

Dom Williams, who had the idea for the run after visiting the Liverpool FC museum and seeing the Hillsborough mosaic, said: "It was very emotional coming onto the pitch and running into the stadium.

"I'm massively pleased to get this reception. I didn't think this many people would be here and it's helped us. It's been brilliant."

John Driscoll, part of the Hillsborough-Anfield run team, added: "Physically we're all quite tired and a bit drained, none of us had ever run beyond 30 miles in one day before, so mentally, we didn't know what we were letting ourselves in for but it was well worth it in the end."

His fellow runner Earle Jackson said: "I'm proud of every single one of the team who has achieved this. Not just the six runners, but the whole support team, the physios, the drivers - everyone who has looked after us. I'm just proud of everybody, we've all done it together as a team."

Funds raised by the effort were split equally between the Hillsborough Family Support Group and the Hillsborough Justice Campaign.

Dolores Steele, of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, was proud of the runners: "I think they're absolutely magnificent. I don't know how they've done it and I hope their legs recover quickly. I just cannot say thank-you enough times to them."
