KD: Final places up for grabs
Kenny Dalglish has told his players that FA Cup final places are up for grabs when Liverpool take on Fulham on Tuesday night.
The Reds have already qualified for the Europa League having won the Carling Cup, and cannot now make the top four - but Dalglish's words are a reminder that there is still plenty to play for as Anfield hosts its penultimate game of the campaign.
The Fulham encounter is our final outing before meeting Chelsea at Wembley this weekend.
"We've said to all of the players we want to give you the best possible chance to be available for selection on Saturday," Dalglish told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"We want the strongest possible squad we can to pick from for Saturday's game, and there are many ways we can do it. If someone needs a break we'll give them a break and if someone needs a game we will give them a game, because every single one of them are more than capable of playing in a cup final for this club.
"It's going to be a difficult selection as it always is but it's a difficult selection for tomorrow night as well. Everybody will be treated fairly and equally and everybody will be allowed to put their CV in for selection on Saturday."
Fulham will field former Red Danny Murphy, and John Arne Riise will also make his first return to Anfield since leaving the club in 2008.
"I'm sure Danny and John Arne will get as good a reception as they are entitled to," said Dalglish. "They get a good reception, then our fans support us, so that's perfect for us and it doesn't undermine any of the players we have on the pitch at any given time."
Earlier this season the Reds lost 1-0 at Craven Cottage and suffered double disappointment with the sending-off of Jay Spearing.
Dalglish's charges created enough chances on the night with Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing both striking the woodwork.
Dalglish said: "It was the story of a lot of games this season but they did play well. They're a good side, Fulham, and difficult to play against. They got battered 4-0 at Everton on Saturday so I'm sure they will be a wee bit upset with that and they might be wounded animals coming to play against us.
"We will just play the best we possibly can and for us it's an important game. It's one we want to get three points from, and we'll put a team on the pitch we think can win and we want to win, then we can concentrate on the final afterwards."
Meanwhile, Dalglish has paid tribute to the travelling supporters who made themselves heard in Norwich.
"I don't think you should ever underestimate how important they are to the players," he said. "For them to make the effort to turn up to support us I think is really appreciated by the players.
"As we said from the outset when we came in 18 months ago: if everybody sticks together, everybody plays their part and we all chip in together, then there's nobody any more important than the next person.
"Whatever role you play at the football club let's try and do it to the best of our abilities. If we do that then we've got a better chance of moving forward, but the supporters have always been an integral part of this football club, and when I'm here then they always will be in our eyes.
"I think they know that and they appreciate the effort that the boys have put in for them and I think maybe the adversity we had a few weeks ago maybe stands us in good stead because it brings everybody closer together."
