Jordan's joy at Reds display
Jordan Henderson insists Liverpool were eager to give Kopites something to cheer following their comprehensive 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Reds signed off from their final home game of the 2011-12 season with a commanding triumph over the Blues, who had narrowly edged out Kenny Dalglish's side in the FA Cup final just 72 hours earlier.
"I think it was the best way to sign off from Anfield for this season," Henderson told Liverpoolfc.tv. "We went into the game wanting to do that and wanting to give the fans a little bit back.
"Although we've had some disappointing results at times this season, we've had some good performances too – and that was another.
"Our game plan was to go at them from the first whistle, pressurise high up the pitch and get at them. We managed to do that and we played quite well."
Asked whether Liverpool's players held any added motivation following their Cup final defeat at Wembley, Henderson added: "Maybe there was a little bit (of added motivation), but we want to go into every game and try to win and this was no different."
Henderson joined Daniel Agger and Jonjo Shelvey on the scoresheet for Liverpool to add to Michael Essien's early own goal at Anfield.
The England U21 international displayed great composure when he capitalised on a John Terry slip to race through on goal and slot beyond Ross Turnbull.
"I don't know (what went through my mind), really," said Henderson. "It all happened quite quick.
"I think someone slipped and I went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and just tried to slot it past him.
"Fortunately it went in, so hopefully I can do that on a more regular basis next season.
"It's always nice to score. Everyone wants to score goals, but it's not as easy as that and you've got to keep working at it – and hopefully I can do that."
Henderson was one of several strong contenders for the man-of-the-match accolade following an assured display in the centre of midfield.
The 21-year-old admits he's unsure whether it was his finest display in a Red shirt, but he's hoping to pick up where he left off in the final game of the season at Swansea City on Sunday.
"I'm not sure (if it was my best)," Henderson said. "I'll let other people decide that. I've just got to concentrate on the next game, which is Swansea, and keep trying to play well for the team.
"It would be nice to finish the season with a win. We go into every game wanting to win – and Sunday will be no different."
