An evening kick-off under the floodlights against Newcastle always seems to be a special occasion at Anfield and this game was no exception.
Indeed, a floodlight failure delayed the kick-off but when the proceedings got underway a French international wearing Robbie Fowler's old No.9 shirt was inspired.
Nicolas Anelka was unstoppable and his pace proved too much for the Toon defence to handle. Danny Murphy netted two goals and Dietmar Hamann placed home the third against his former club.
At this point Liverpool were still very much in for the Premier League title under Gerard Houllier.
