Kenny: Let's end on a high
Kenny Dalglish insists Liverpool will head to Swansea City on Sunday with plenty to play for as they aim to finish as high up the Barclays Premier League table as possible.
The Reds are currently in eighth position in the standings, but could leapfrog neighbours Everton should they prevail at the Liberty Stadium and the Blues fail to beat Newcastle United at Goodison Park on the final day of the campaign.
Dalglish told reporters at Melwood: "We've got a desire to go there and win and, as we've said before, we want to do as well as we possibly can in every game we play.
"To win a trophy after six years was a good result for us, to get to the FA Cup final was a good result, and to get into the Europa League is also a measure of success.
"We're not happy finishing below anybody in the table. We want to be finishing above everybody.
"Whoever is in our road, it is up to us to be better than they are and get there when we can - but it's not been too bad (a season) for us."
Liverpool will head to Swansea buoyed by a commanding 4-1 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday as they signed off from Anfield in 2011-12 in style.
Dalglish added: "It was a fantastic result and performance. As we said after the game, that's exactly what a lot of our performances have deserved - a positive result like that.
"They've played as well as that - if not better - in many games and not had the positive result, so it went very well for us."
Swansea have caught the imagination since securing their return to the top flight last summer and they currently sit comfortably in 12th position heading into the final weekend.
The Swans' brand of passing football has amassed no shortage of admirers, and Dalglish knows his charges will be in for a tough test on Sunday.
"They've been fantastic this year," said the boss. "We had a good game against them earlier in the season at Anfield and they've done really well, kept to their beliefs and that's stood them in good stead.
"The good work was started off with Roberto Martinez and has carried on with the people who are there now.
"Their position in the league doesn't mislead anybody. They are a good side and it'll be a difficult game for us."
Asked whether Brendan Rodgers's determination to stick to his footballing principles was the main factor behind Swansea's impressive form, Dalglish replied: "I think every manager who has come up has stuck to his own principles - you can only be what you are yourself, you cannot be somebody else.
"You've got a better chance if you just be yourself. I'm sure everybody that has come up has been like that - some have just been more successful than others, and Brendan has been successful."
The clash at Swansea will wrap up Liverpool's season - though Dalglish isn't anticipating much of a summer break.
"You look forward to the games when you're working, and you look forward to having a bit of respite when you're not working," he said. "But it's very seldom, even during the summer, you get a day off anyway. You're normally on the phone doing something in some way shape or form!"
