Considering what transpired in May the following year, an away win against Birmingham that effectively secured a return to the UEFA Champions League, was as crucial a victory as they come.

It was Liverpool's second to last league game of the season and Aston Villa were hot on their heels for a top four spot. Birmingham, on a poor run of one win in seven games, were nonetheless a potential stumbling block for Gerard Houllier's Reds.

But they were swept aside in style as Liverpool hurtled towards a precious Champions League return. Michael Owen turned in crosses from Emile Heskey and Steven Gerrard before Gerrard bagged a goal of his own to make it 3-0.
