Most Exciting PL games: 85
Continuing our brand new summer feature of Liverpool's 100 Most Exciting Premier League Games is No.85 and a rout over West Brom at the Hawthorns.
LFC's Most Exciting PL Game No.85: December 26, 2004. West Brom 0-5 Liverpool.
Exactly mid-way through Rafa Benitez's first season, Liverpool were 6th place in the Barclays Premier League and nine points behind high-flying neighbours Everton, who would go on to finish above the Reds for the first time since 1987.
The Reds were going strong in Europe, having already pulled off a special comeback against Olympiakos in the group stages, but defeat at Goodison Park for the first time in seven years had been particularly hard to stomach. On Boxing Day though, the Reds were in unstoppable form at the Hawthorns.
Their dominance was so complete that John Arne Riise, who bagged brace on the day remarked: "I don't think I have ever played in a match where we have dominated so much against another Premier League side I was almost possessed with the thought of scoring a hat-trick."
Riise struck either side of goals from Florent Sinama Pongolle and Steven Gerrard before Luis Garcia clinched Liverpool's fifth.
Each weeknight during the summer we'll reveal four more from our countdown from 6pm BST on LFC TV. 11-minute highlights will then be available on LFC TV Online the following morning. LFC TV is available FREE to view on SKY channel 434 and Virgin channel 544 (as part of the XL pack).
