Most Exciting PL Games: 58
Coming in at Number 58 in Liverpool's 100 Most Exciting PL Games is a Michael Owen inspired win at Newcastle from 1998.
LFC's Most Exciting PL Games No.58: August 30, 1998. Newcastle United 1-4 Liverpool.
The day was all meant to be about Ruud Gullit and a new dynasty at St James' Park, but Michael Owen and Liverpool had other ideas with a rampant display.
Having replaced Kop icon Kenny Dalglish in the Newcastle hot seat, expectant Geordies faced a reality check as the Reds gave a perfect demonstration of attacking football at its very best.
All the goals came in the first half. Two Owen goals put the Reds in front before French international Stephane Guivarc'h reduced the arrears.
Owen sealed his hat-trick in style with a magnificent goal, when he ran past the Newcastle defence and curled home beyond the reach of Shay Given.
Patrik Berger added a fourth goal just before half-time.
