Reds on loan during 2011-12
During the 2011-12 campaign 11 Liverpool players had spells away from Anfield as they looked for regular first-team starts. Here is how they all got on.
Joe Cole
Cole had a fine season with Lille in France and such was his popularity the supporters invented a song to the tune of the Beatles classic 'Hey Jude'.
The England international made an impressive 42 appearances for Lille as they finished third in Ligue 1 and secured a place in the qualifying rounds for the Champions League.
Alberto Aquilani
After featuring in pre-season for the Reds, Aquilani spent the 2011-12 season on loan with AC Milan in Serie A.
He made 23 appearances for the Rossoneri as they finished runners-up to title winners Juventus.
The midfielder also played in the Champions League for AC but missed out on a place in Italy's squad for Euro 2012.
Stephen Darby
Academy right-back Darby spent the entire season on loan at Rochdale and although the club were relegated from League One in a turbulent campaign off the field, new boss John Coleman was delighted with the Liverpool man's consistent performances.
Despite missing the final few games of the season through injury Darby made 35 appearances.
David Amoo
The winger has now agreed to sign for Preston North End when his Anfield contract expires tomorrow, but he spent the 2011-12 campaign on loan at Bury.
The former Millwall man was a big hit with the Shakers and hit four goals in 27 appearances at Gigg Lane.
Dani Pacheco
The Spanish forward spent the season on loan in La Liga with Rayo Vallecano.
He was originally snapped up on loan from Atletico Madrid who instantly sent him to Vallecano for the campaign.
He was mainly used as an impact player coming off the bench and he made 11 appearances in total for the Spanish capital club.
Toni Silva
Portugese youngster Toni Silva joined The Cobblers in February and made a big impact, creating the winning goal on his debut against AFC Wimbledon.
The Academy winger made 15 appearances and scored once as he helped Aidy Boothroyd's team see off the threat of relegation and maintain their Football League status.
Danny Wilson
The Scotland international arrived at Blackpool on New Year's Eve to spend the rest of the campaign with Ian Holloway's team.
The former Rangers man made 10 appearances for the seaside club but didn't feature in their play-off final defeat to West Ham at Wembley.
Peter Gulacsi
The Hungarian stopper spent the first part of the season with Hull City but was recalled to take his place on the Liverpool bench for the FA Cup semi-final against Everton, after Pepe Reina and Alexander Doni were ruled out.
He made 15 appearances for the Tigers but when Nigel Pearson returned to Leicester, he didn't feature in the first team under former Red and then Hull boss Nick Barmby.
Jonjo Shelvey
The midfielder spent the first part of the campaign on loan at Blackpool and made a big impression under Holloway.
Playing as an attacking midfielder, the No.33 hit six goals in 10 appearances for the Bloomfield Road club, including a hat-trick against Leeds United.
Shelvey was recalled to Anfield when Lucas Leiva was ruled out for the season.
Nathan Eccleston
The Academy product spent just one month at Rochdale back in November before returning to be a regular in the reserve team under Rodolfo Borrell.
The forward, who spent the previous season on loan at Charlton Athletic, made five appearances for Rochdale and scored one goal.
He ended the campaign netting eight goals for the reserves.
Villyan Bijev
After firing goals galore while on trial at the Academy, Liverpool signed the American striker before sending him out on loan to Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Bijev, who has Bulgarian citizenship, is a USA U18 international and he made 16 appearances for Fortuna's regional side, netting four goals.
He also made one appearance for the German Second Division club, who won promotion to the Bundesliga.
