LFC's Most Exciting PL Games No.64: December 14, 1996. Liverpool 5-1 Middlesbrough.

Ian Rush's Liverpool records are seldom broken. When they are, it signifies something special indeed. And in the late 90s there was nothing more special at Anfield than the man who the Kop christened 'God'.

Fowler netted his 100th goal in 165 appearances, faster than Rush achieved the milestone, as Bryan Robson's 'Boro were swept aside at Anfield.

The 21-year-old Toxteth-born striker even casually unveiled a t-shirt with the message 'Jobs a Good 'Un' on it as he fired in Liverpool's second and his 100th.

Fowler set the ball rolling for a rout when he scored after a minute of play. He doubled his tally on 29 minutes before Stig Inge Bjornebye made it 3-0.

Michael Thomas scored an own goal for the home side before Fowler smashed two more past Gary Walsh to make it 5-1.

Each weeknight during the summer we'll reveal four more from our countdown from 6pm BST on LFC TV. 11-minute highlights will then be available on LFC TV Online the following morning. LFC TV is available FREE to view on SKY channel 434 and Virgin channel 544 (as part of the XL pack).
