Most Exciting PL Games: 56
In at Number 60 in Liverpool's 100 Most Exciting PL Games is a Robbie Fowler-inspired victory over Aston Villa at Anfield.
LFC's Most Exciting PL Games No.56: October 8, 1994. Liverpool 3-2 Aston Villa.
The Reds moved into 3rd place in the Premier League after a win against Ron Atkinson's Villa.
On 20 minutes, the linesman ruled Mark Bosnich had picked up an Andy Townsend back-pass and awarded Liverpool a free-kick. Ian Rush nudged the ball into the path of Neil Ruddock, who hammered the ball through a wall of Villa defenders for his first goal of the season.
Fowler then doubled Liverpool's advantage with a stunning, rasping effort from the edge of the area and the Reds looked as though they were cruising.
However, the visitors pulled themselves back into the game when Guy Whittingham fired low past James to halve the deficit seven minutes before the interval.
Fowler followed up a stunning opener with an equally exquisite finish to put daylight between the sides before Steve Staunton netted against his old club, slotting past David James for 3-2.
