LFC to host 999 Cup
Twelve teams will battle it out at this year's 999 Cup which will be held at Liverpool FC's Academy in Kirkby on Saturday.
Now into its 10th year, the 999 Cup is a six-a-side football tournament that's organised by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service to raise money for local charities.
Liverpool legend Phil Neal will be attending the event and will present the trophy to the winning team. The event is expected to raise over £8,000 which will be donated to the Liverpool FC Foundation and Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service Football Team Community Coaching Project.
Gary Adlen, Foundation Director, Liverpool Football Club, said: "It's great for us to team up with the local emergency services and we are delighted to host the tenth 999 Cup at our Academy.
"The money raised will be split and will go towards supporting our LFC Foundation community projects and the Fire Service's community projects which includes kids' coaching sessions in Dingle."
Among the teams competing are, Morrisons, yoursuresave.com, Aberdeen LFC Supporters Branch, Wates, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, Cumbria Fire Service, Merseyside Ambulance Service, British Army and Merseyside Police.
Roy Stewart, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service Football Team Manager, added: "Liverpool FC has kindly allowed us to host this event at the Academy for 10 years now and with the LFC Foundation's help it will continue to grow and be a success.
"The Fire Service, like the Club itself, has a duty to be as pro-active as possible in the community and the funds raised will certainly help us with our own Friday night football projects."
The tournament, which is sponsored by yoursuresave.com and supported by DLA Piper, will take place on Saturday..
