Liverpool FC staff and hospitality members travelling home from the Reds' Carling Cup win in February raised just under £1,500 for local charity Jospice by raffling signed memorabilia.

St Joseph's Hospice is one of the oldest in the country, providing care and support to terminally ill people and their families from within the Liverpool and Sefton areas as well as supporting hospices in Guatemala, Honduras, Ecuador and Peru.

And Pat Murphy, director of fundraising and communications at Jospice, was presented with a cheque for £1,345 by Liverpool staff at the club's Chapel Street offices.

The team had initially planned to raffle the items, which included signed shirts and football boots, for free as part of the train journey back from Wembley. However, once it was proposed money should be donated to a charity of choice and that the charity in question was Jospice, contributions started to pour in.

Liverpool legends Ian Callaghan and David Johnson helped raise further funds by carrying the prizes down the train as the donations came thick and fast.

"It was a lovely gesture from everyone involved," said Sue Johnston, Liverpool's Hospitality Sales Manager. "Some of us there knew about the charity and we thought it would be a perfect charity to donate to because of all the good work they do in the area.

"Once we had agreed on the charity, people were great with their donations and it was a brilliant way to end what was a fantastic day."
