Day 6: LFC TV at the Euros
LFC TV's Matt Critchley is in Poland to bring us daily updates as 16 nations compete for the European Championships crown. Here is his latest update.
You will see a lot of images and reports on what happened in Warsaw last night but what you probably won't hear too much of is the fantastic way the Polish police dealt with the issues leading up to the host's game with Russia.
I was in the city throughout the day and headed up to the stadium just before 5pm local time. There were police everywhere. I could not say that it wasn't an intimidating atmosphere - it was, at times - but the hefty police presence certainly gave a feeling of reassurance and the authorities should take credit for that.
Yes, there were incidents, fights, violence but this was perhaps always going to happen in a big game between two countries with such a long, complex and troubled history. In my opinion it was a bad night - but could have been a lot worse.
The game itself was one of the best of the tournament so far I thought, a broadcasters and commentators nightmare though! Luckily our LFC TV match day commentator John Bradley, who has an unbelievable knowledge of European and Russian football in particular, helped me out with some of the more tricky pronunciations.
I'm hoping to catch up with Jason McAteer again today. He's been up to Gdansk to meet up and interview some of his old Ireland colleagues - fancies himself as the next Jeremy Paxman does McAteer. We'll be watching Denmark v Portugal and Holland v Germany later with interest.
Defeat for Holland would mean the end of their tournament - and that could well happen against a really talented German outfit. Don't be surprised if the Dutch call on the 'man for the big occasion' for this one. Say what you like about Dirk Kuyt but he was a brilliant servant to the club and scored some of our biggest goals in the last few years. I know that everyone at Liverpool will miss him and wishes him all the best for his future in Turkey.
