Most Exciting PL Games: 5
Up next is a 4-3 win over Newcastle at Anfield from 1997.
LFC's Most Exciting PL Games No.5: March 10, 1997. Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle.
Lightning struck twice in the very same place.
Just 11 months on from the 4-3 defeat that killed-off Newcastle's title hopes and conjured iconic images of a despairing Kevin Keegan in the Anfield dugout; his successor Kenny Dalglish suffered the exact same fate.
A late, diving-header from Robbie Fowler settled the iconic 1997 encounter in the most dramatic fashion. McManaman played a key part too, not least when he scored a peach of an opener on 29 minutes.
Redknapp clipped a perfectly-weighted pass out to McAteer on the right, he cut inside and flashed the ball across the face of goal, Fowler dummied, McManaman controlled and then bent his strike into the top corner of the Anfield Road goal.
The Reds raced into a three-goal lead as Patrik Berger and Robbie Fowler netted for Roy Evans' side. However; a late charge from the visitors saw Dalglish's title contenders haul themselves level with three goals in the space of 16 minutes.
Keith Gillespie got the first, then Faustino Asprilla made it 3-2 on 87 minutes before Warren Barton thought he had sealed a point a minute later.
However, moments before the final whistle blew, Fowler raced into the Newcastle penalty area and buried a header past Shaka Hislop to clinch victory at the Kop End.
