He broke our hearts in '96 but on Monday night Eric Cantona got up on stage at a Justice gig in Lyon and showed his support for the 96 fans who died at Hillsborough.

The Frenchman, who scored the winner for Manchester United against Liverpool in the 1996 FA Cup final, put club allegiances to one side to join the Justice Tonight band, which consists of Mick Jones, Pete Wylie and The Farm.

He performed backing vocals to The Clash classic Should I Stay or Should I Go.

Asked if he was on stage purely as a favour to his friend Jones, Cantona replied: "No. I fully support the campaign for justice."

The Justice Tonight band aims to raise awareness of the ongoing fight for justice following the events which saw 96 Liverpool fans die at Hillsborough on April 15, 1989.

The band, who first formed to play a concert organised by the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, were supporting The Stone Roses in Lyon.
