Day 20: My Euro 2012 awards
LFC TV's Matt Critchley brings us his final blog from Euro 2012 and casts an eye back over what has been an eventful tournament by selecting his personal highlights...
So the final in Kiev is nearly upon us but for Warsaw, Poland and me, it's time to wave goodbye to these European Championships.
Italy's victory over Germany in the National Stadium here on Thursday night was the last Polish involvement in this tournament and already the UEFA bandwagon has moved on. The banners have started to come down, the fan zones are being dismantled, and Warsaw is returning to something like normal again.
They can look back over the last three weeks with immense pride at their contribution to Euro 2012. The negative press headlines and scare-mongering before a ball was kicked now feels like a lifetime ago, and completely off the mark. The Poles have put on a brilliant party and people from across the continent have been here to enjoy it.
And I most certainly have but now it's time to return to Liverpool and start preparing for the season ahead. But first, some awards to hand out...
My player of the tournament: It's hard to look past Andrea Pirlo, isn't it? Whatever happens on Sunday he's been magnificent for the Azzuri and proved that you don't need to be the quickest or the most athletic to be the best. Special mentions go to Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos as well.
My game of the tournament: I was lucky enough to be at six matches of these championships and I'm picking from the ones I've seen live. Germany v Italy was good, Germany v Greece was very good but my personal favourite was the opening match, Poland v Greece. It had everything - goals, sending offs, action, drama and one of the best atmospheres I've been part of.
My goal of the tournament: Slightly controversial this one but if it's good enough for Alan Shearer (who agrees) it's good enough for me. Just how good was Andy Carroll's header against Sweden? Brilliant in my eyes.
My team of the tournament: Buffon, Johnson, Ramos, Barzagli, Alba, Pirlo, Gerrard, Alonso, Iniesta, Balotelli, Ozil.
My moment of the tournament: Well lifting this thing wasn't too bad!
So it's good bye to Warsaw and hello again to the UK after nearly four weeks away. Time to re-introduce myself to my wife and daughter and then head off to the States for the pre-season tour.
And yes, you don't need to tell me, I know I'm a lucky so and so.
