Liverpool Ladies fought back magnificently to take a point with a 3-3 draw against Lincoln in their final game of the first half of the Women's Super League season on Saturday.

The Reds trailed 2-0 and 3-2, but showed great character to grab a point at the death thanks to Kelly Jones's penalty at Ashby Avenue.

Despite the match being subject to an early pitch inspection, the game kicked off in dry, warm conditions as Liverpool attempted to avenge last month's Continental Cup defeat at the same venue.

That bid got off to the worst possible start though, as they fell behind inside the first three minutes. A long ball from Casey Stoney was allowed to bounce in the Reds box before Precious Hamilton produced a clinical finish to put the Imps in front.

Lincoln continued their dominance through the opening stages, and doubled their lead on 14 minutes when Hamilton produced another instinctive finish after Carla Cantrell's shot was blocked.

Despite having barely threatened, Liverpool found themselves right back in the game midway through the half when Michelle Evans's sublime free-kick was coolly finished by the unmarked Emily Gielnik.

Liverpool were in the ascendancy in the second half didn't have to wait long for the equaliser  as it arrived on 70 minutes through good play from Chloe Jones and a slice of fortune.

Jones displayed good strength in midfield before driving forward and unleashing a powerful shot, which struck Sophie Bradley's head and looped over the back-peddling Hobbs.

Parity lasted barely three minutes, though, as Remi Allen restored Lincoln's lead from the penalty spot after Vicky Jones was adjudged to have clipped Hamilton's heels as she raced onto a through ball.

That looked to be the decisive moment, but deep into injury time, Lincoln skipper Stoney pulled back Kelly Jones as she prepared to challenge for a cross, resulting in a red card and a penalty.

With virtually the last kick of the game, Jones held her nerve to brilliantly despatch the spot kick low to Hobbs's right and gave her side a deserved point.
