Jones strikes as U18s draw
Lloyd Jones netted a late equaliser as Liverpool U18s clinched a hard-fought draw against Nottingham Forest at the Academy on Saturday morning.
Steve Cooper's side fought their way back from behind twice in their final pre-season fixture before next week's big kick-off against Wolves.
Forest snatched an early lead before the Reds settled into the game, retained possession and fashioned a number of goalscoring opportunities.
And when Sam Gainford was fouled inside the penalty area Jerome Sinclair stepped up to equalise from the spot.
The visitors soon made it 2-1 and with just minutes remaining in the game it looked like they would hold on to a precious lead; however, centre-back Jones was on hand to clinch a valuable draw for the Reds.
"It was a really tight match and I thought the players stuck to their task today," reflected Cooper. "We played some good football and it was probably a fair result.
"Forest are a very good side, so all in all it was a really positive work-out for the lads."
