She's one of Britain's most beloved actresses, she's soon to be starring in Coronation Street, and she's Liverpool FC through and through.

Sue Johnston, most famous recently as a member of The Royle Family, has followed the Reds since the 1960s.

When she's not attending games in person, she often finds ingenuous means of keeping up with matches.

"I'll always recall performing in a theatre in Stoke-on-Trent when we beat Newcastle 4-3 in the mid-90s two seasons on the run," she tells Liverpool FC magazine.

"It was the first night so there were a few nerves. I had people telling me the score with their hands. There was a lot of confusion and at the end I thought we'd lost 4-3.

"There's a great camaraderie associated with football, though. If you go into a room and you don't know a soul but quickly find out that just one person supports a certain club, then you have something in common."

Sue, who'll be playing Gloria, mother of Rovers landlady Stella, in Coronation Street on ITV, also remembers the time that Brookside's cast went to the 1984 Milk Cup final, the day that Ricky Tomlinson played in goal - in drag - and what Alex Ferguson told her about his club's rivalry with Liverpool.

It's all in the new Liverpool FC magazine, out now and at the start of every month.
