U18s fight back for Wolves point
Liverpool U18s battled back from 3-1 down to clinch a point on the first day of their season against Wolves on Saturday.
The young Reds even had the chance to clinch a winner when Dan Cleary was brought down in the penalty area but Jerome Sinclair was unlucky not to convert from the spot.
Steve Cooper's side began the game brightly and were the dominant force when, against the run of play, they fell behind to a Wolves counter attack 25 minutes into the match.
They soon found themselves trailing 2-0 despite creating numerous chances and having dictated the play. However, Jordan Lussey took matters into his own hands just before half-time to halve the deficit by scoring in sensational style.
The midfielder picked the ball up inside his own half, sprinted 40 yards towards goal and unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard drive to pull one back for the Reds.
Wolves added a third after the re-start but Cooper's side were not about to give up without a fight and substitute Kris Peterson nodded home a corner to make it 3-2.
With minutes left on the clock, Lussey slipped a through pass into the path of Sam Gainford, who controlled before slotting the equaliser.
The young Reds might have clinched a win in the dying seconds of the season's opener but Sinclair was denied as he shaped to convert a late penalty.
Cooper reflected: "I thought offensively we were very good today. It was a great attacking performance but we have got to put ourselves in a position where we aren't conceding goals like that.
"If we can become more resilient at the back then I have no worries. In all, it was a good start to the season today."
