Liverpool Football Club would like to wish Kevin Sheedy a speedy recovery after the former Reds midfielder was diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Sheedy, who also represented Everton's hugely successful teams of the 1980s and has been an Academy coach for the Blues since 2006, will undergo surgery on Friday.

"It's not ideal but I have to remain positive," said the 52-year-old. "There is a history in the family.

"It's so important that people don't ignore the early signs and symptoms and don't be afraid to consult a GP."

Sheedy made five first-team appearances for the Reds between 1981 and 1982 before joining Everton. He also featured for Newcastle United, Blackpool and the Republic of Ireland during his trophy-laden playing career.

The thoughts of everybody at Liverpool FC are with Kevin and his family and friends at this time.
