Sahin's top-four target
Nuri Sahin insists Liverpool's dominant performance against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday reaffirmed his belief that the Reds have the potential to secure a top-four finish at the end of this season.
Having only played for European Cup winners throughout his seven-year career, at Borussia Dortmund, Feyenoord and Real Madrid, Sahin is well-versed in the significance of securing a place in Europe's premier cup competition.
And he is committed to ensuring the Reds achieve their Champions League goal at the end of this campaign.
"If you watch the game against Manchester City, you see that the style the team is playing is very good and of course, Liverpool has to play in the Champions League," Sahin said.
"A big club like Liverpool has to play every year in the Champions League and we will do everything to get in the top four.
"Also there is the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League, and with the potential we have here, we can do some good things."
Sahin collected a Bundesliga winners' medal at the end of the 2009-10 campaign and was voted Player of the Season for his efforts as Dortmund brought the title back to the Westfalenstadion for the first time in eight years.
Injury prevented him from establishing a place in Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid side last year but the midfielder insists the style of play Brendan Rodgers is looking to implement at Anfield will help him flourish over the coming months.
"The project with Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers is the best for my situation I think - that is why I am here," he said. "I think the style I play is the same as how the manager wants the team to play.
"I didn't play so many games so it was important for me to come to a club where I have the chance to play at a high level and Liverpool is the best club for me right now.
Sahin secured his loan switch to Merseyside on Saturday and the midfielder insists he can't wait to get out on the pitch as a Liverpool player.
"I've trained for three days with the team and everything is going well," he said. "I have settled in very well and I hope it will be the same on the pitch and that we will have a great season.
"What people told me about Liverpool is what I see now. They are a very big football club with a huge history and I think I have made the right choice."
