Liverpool FC Ladies were denied victory as Everton scored two goals in stoppage time to clinch a 2-1 victory on Wednesday night.

It was cruel misfortune on Matt Beard's side and they didn't deserve to be on the losing side, in front of a healthy crowd of 1,568 at Skelmersdale United FC.

Liverpool FC Ladies showed great spirit and determination and gave their all, and if they keep performing like this then their fortunes will definitely change for the better under the new manager.

Cheryl Foster gave the Reds the lead from the penalty spot as the first half drew to a close, after Everton were penalised for handling the ball in the penalty area.

The impressive Hannah Keryakoplis had earlier gone close for the Reds with a superb effort from the right edge of the box that sailed just over the bar, and the closest the Blues came was a fantastic 25-yard drive from Fara Williams that came back off the bar.

Welsh youth international Keryakoplis went close to making it 2-0 with a close range effort that went just wide and Nicky Davies in goal for the Reds was in brilliant form.

Davies made a stunning double save to deny Williams and then the follow up effort from Natasha Dowie.

However with four minutes of stoppage time announced Beard's side, who had looked set to hold on for a crucial three points, suffered a cruel blow.

Substitute Gwen Harries netted a fine volley from close range before a slip in the Reds defence let in Dowie who produced a superb lob over Davies and into the net for the winner.
