Starlets bring Alder Hey joy
Three of Liverpool's promising youngsters visited Alder Hey children's hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
Lloyd Jones, Nathan Burke and Jack Dunn (below, from left to right) took a tour of the hospital's Neurosurgical and Cardiac wards as part of an ongoing initiative which sees the Academy make a monthly visit to Alder Hey.
Clive Cook, Academy education and welfare officer, explained the importance of the visits: "It's vital for the players to understand they are in a privileged position in society.
"They can make a difference in helping these young children. At Alder Hey, a lot of the kids are desperately poorly but they are still happy and they are smiling. The visit from the Academy boys is the highlight of their day."
Irene Axon, Alder Hey's senior community fundraiser, said: "Once again it was a really successful and heart-warming gesture from the Academy.
"We had a new set of lads this time and, as ever, they were brilliant. They were relaxed and very friendly with the children and their families.
"It was great that the lads were confident enough to be able to talk to the children and that made things much better. They were really good at connecting with the children and they didn't hold back at all.
"And I know from feedback from the Academy boys that they thoroughly enjoyed their trip and that it really put things in perspective for them. We hope it's something that's going to continue."
