It was a frustrating afternoon for Liverpool FC Ladies who lost 5-2 at home to Birmingham City on Sunday.

Matt Beard's side actually started the game superbly with Chloe Jones smashing a scorching volley into the City net via the bar after just four minutes.

However, the Reds suffered a blow when captain Vicky Jones was stretchered off following a collision with debutant goalkeeper Sarah Quantrill.

After an 11 minute stoppage because of the injury, Beard's side were unlucky not to increase their advantage with Michelle Evans and Kelly Jones both going close.

Birmingham then took charge of the game and went 5-1 up before Kelly Jones fired a consolation to make it 5-2 near the end.

Beard's side are back in action on Sunday, September 23 when they face a tricky test away at Arsenal.
