Here are some things you might not have known about Young Boys and our history with Swiss teams...

Young Boys will be the fifth different Swiss team to face Liverpool in Europe following Servette, FC Zurich, Sion and FC Basel. They will be the Reds' 116th different opponent in European competition.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 19 games in Europe when they were defeated 1-0 at Braga in March 2011.

No team has scored more than one goal in a European game against the Reds in the last 21 matches since Benfica netted twice in April 2010.

The Reds have conceded just six goals in their last 18 European games home and away. In that time they have lost just once - the 1-0 defeat in Braga. They have conceded two goals in the last nine matches in Europe and have kept clean sheets in four of the last five games.

Pepe Reina's next game will equal Ray Clemence's club record of 80 appearances by a Liverpool goalkeeper in Europe.

Steven Gerrard is one goal away from equalling Michael Owen's club record of 12 goals in the competition.

Liverpool need two goals to record 200 in this competition since they first took part in 1967-68.

Young Boys have been Champions of Switzerland on 11 occasions - the last being in 1986 - while they have lifted the Swiss Cup six times, with the most recent victory coming in 1987. They finished as league runners-up in 2009 and 2010.

Their best ever season in Europe came in 1959 when they reached the semi-final of the European Cup, where they lost to Stade de Reims 3-1 on aggregate.

This is Young Boys' seventh successive season in this competition. Their best was in 2010-11 when they reached the last 32 before losing to Zenit St Petersburg after finishing second in a group containing Stuttgart, Getafe and Odense. This came after they had been knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers by Tottenham. At one stage they led Spurs 3-0 in the home leg before losing 6-3 on aggregate.

That is the only occasion they have met English opponents in Europe.

They finished third in last season's league - 23 points behind winners Basel.

They currently lie in fifth place in the League with 12 points from eight games - six points behind leaders St Gallen.

They recorded a victory in the Swiss Cup last Saturday, defeating second tier club Wettswil-Bonstetten 5-1 away from home with two goals each from Raul Bobadilla (one a penalty) and Alexander Farnerud. Matias Vitkieviez netting the other from the penalty spot.

Argentinian Bobadilla has scored six goals in his last eight games while midfielder Farnerud - a Swedish international - has six goals from his last nine appearances.

Defender Scott Sutter is a Swiss international despite being born and raised in Enfield, England. His father is Swiss and Sutter moved to Switzerland at the age of 16 to join Grasshoppers having played youth football for Millwall, Barnet, Aston Villa and Charlton.

Referee Michael Koukoulakis (Greece) has never taken charge of Liverpool before.

Christian Gross was coach of Young Boys until he was replaced in April 2012 by an interim coach. Current boss Martin Rueda was appointed in July. As a player he was part of the Swiss World Cup squad in 1994.

Young Boys' biggest European victory came in August 1960 when they won 5-0 at Limerick, while they suffered their heaviest defeat at the hands of Steaua Bucharest in 1979-80 season going down 6-0.
