Pascoe: An immense rivalry
Colin Pascoe believes the 'immense' rivalry between Liverpool and long-time foes Manchester United is as big as any in world football.
The Reds take on United at Anfield in the Barclays Premier League this afternoon, searching for their first victory in the top flight this season.
Pascoe has been pleased by the standard of the team's performances, however, and expressed his anticipation for the encounter, which means so much to the club's supporters.
"It's an immense fixture on the calendar and it will be a great atmosphere on the day, with Manchester United and Liverpool going head-to head," Brendan Rodgers' No.2 enthused to Liverpoolfc.com.
"It's up there with every rivalry. When you're looking at it from the outside, you're looking at Manchester United and Liverpool always fighting for honours and that fixture is always one that stands out."
Liverpool have won four of the last five meetings between the two teams at Anfield, and although the same number of points are on offer as for any other game, Pascoe accepted that fixtures against the Red Devils mean more.
He continued: "It's everything to win the game. It's still only three points at the end of the day but it's a local rivalry with Manchester United and we're really looking forward to the game."
"The lads are getting better, the performances are getting better," added Pascoe, who revealed that the final message to the players before kick-off will be: 'Go out, do what you've been doing and win the game.'
The assistant also gave his opinion that a crucial factor in any victory would be the support from the fans, which has made a significant impression on Pascoe since he arrived at Anfield in June.
"The way they are during the game at home, they can really lift the lads. Certainly in my short time here, the fans get behind the team and it's immense," he explained.
