A much weakened Liverpool FC Ladies side lost 4-1 in the Women's Super League away at Arsenal on Sunday.

The Gunners are a strong force in the ladies game but Liverpool never let their heads go down and kept battling right to the end.

Katie Brussell netted a fantastic consolation goal for Matt Beard's side with a stunning volley.

Reflecting on the game, boss Matt Beard said: "One of the biggest problems we've had since I've been here is the squads fitness levels.

"We had lots of players out injured and players with knocks who played today. When they got the third and fourth goals it was mainly because of the players tiredness.

"But we should be proud of what we've put in today and proved we can compete with the top teams in the country."

Liverpool FC Ladies end their season with a home game against Doncaster Belles on Sunday, October 7.
