Here are some things you might not have known about West Brom and their history with Liverpool...

Steven Gerrard is aiming to become only the ninth Liverpool player to reach a double-figure goal tally in the League Cup. Ian Rush 48, Robbie Fowler 29, Kenny Dalglish 27, Ronnie Whelan 14, Steve McMahon 13, Danny Murphy 11, Steve McManaman and David Fairclough (10 each) are the others to have done so.

The sides have met on three previous occasions in this competition. In 1972-73 Liverpool won a 2-1 third-round replay after a 1-1 Hawthorns draw. West Brom gained revenge in 1976-77 winning 1-0 at home following a 1-1 draw at Anfield in round two. The last meeting saw the Reds win 2-0 on this ground in the third round in 1997-98 thanks to goals from Patrik Berger and Robbie Fowler.

Liverpool have scored in 44 of the last 45 League Cup games - only failing to hit the net during that time at Chelsea in December 2007. Brendan Rodgers was on the coaching staff at Stamford Bridge at that time.

Pepe Reina was the only player to appear in all seven of Liverpool's League Cup games last season. He has never tasted defeat in this competition in eight matches.

This is the fifth time in a row Liverpool have been drawn away in the League Cup - they were even drawn to play away in the first leg of the semi-final last season - and the eighth time in the last nine one-legged ties.

Liverpool have won each of their last five away games in the League Cup - they have never won six.

On the last four occasions that Liverpool have gone into a League Cup campaign as holders, they have failed to get beyond round four.

Liverpool have lost their last two meetings with Albion. The last time they were beaten in three successive meetings came in February 1938. They have won 10, drawn one and lost two of their last 13 visits in all competitions - but have lost two of the last three.

The Reds have failed to score only twice in the last 17 visits to the Hawthorns.

The teams met on the opening day of this season at the Hawthorns with the Baggies winning 3-0 with Zoltan Gera, Peter Odemwingie (pen) and Romelu Lukaku scoring. Pepe Reina saved a Shane Long penalty.

They conceded as many goals (three) in their last visit to the Hawthorns than they had done in the previous nine put together.

The Baggies have been awarded four penalties in Liverpool's last three visits to the Hawthorns - two by Martin Atkinson in April 2011 and two by Phil Dowd last month.

They have won all three home games this season and are yet to concede.

Liverpool have played in six penalty shoot-outs in the League Cup, losing twice - to Wimbledon in 1993 and Northampton at Anfield in 2010.

Brad Jones's only League Cup appearance for Liverpool came in September 2010 when the Reds lost on penalties to Northampton after a 2-2 draw.

Brendan Rodgers has managed teams in eight League Cup ties - winning four and losing four.

Liverpool's biggest win at the Hawthorns came in April 2003 when they won 6-0.

Michael Owen's four-goal haul in April 2003 is the last hat-trick scored by a Liverpool player against the Baggies.  John Wark in a 5-0 win in March 1985 is the only other to achieve the feat for the Reds on this ground.
