Reds celebrate health projects
A special event was held at Anfield on Tuesday to celebrate the success of two men's health projects the club has supported in recent years.
More than 160 people attended the evening, which highlighted the work done by the LFC Foundation men's health programme during 2011-12 and the Blue September campaign.
The health programme is in place to help men throughout the city who want to regain a fitter lifestyle, doing so by arranging specifically targeted sessions in their local area.
Free advice and discussion concerning issues such as alcohol awareness and sexual health are offered as well as exercise and activities.
During the last three years, more than 1,500 men have passed through the programme, which was recently acknowledged as the leading scheme of its kind by a Barclays Premier League study.
Blue September is a campaign designed to raise awareness among men of all forms of cancer, and has been personally backed by both Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
Leading health agencies, including Cancer Research UK, were present at Tuesday's celebration to provide advice, and former Reds star Jason McAteer was in attendance.
A healthy buffet was laid on, local comedian Chris Cairns took a light-hearted look at the serious topics on the agenda, and each guest was given a special LFC goodie bag to take home.
Mark Haig of the LFC Foundation said: "Today's event was a big thank you to all who have shown commitment in attending the LFC Foundation men's health programme
"And to those partner agencies who work with us to help improve the health of men in the city. LFC legend Jason McAteer and comedian Chris Cairns contributed to a laughter-filled event attended by over 150 people."
