Nuri Sahin admitted it was a special moment to register his first goals in a red shirt as his double blast helped Liverpool reach the fourth round of the Capital One Cup after a 2-1 win over West Brom.

The Turkish international had a fine match as a very young Reds side rose to the occasion to come from behind and record a memorable victory.

Sahin celebrated his winning goal in front of the travelling Kop and admitted it was a moment to savour.

The No.4 told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was very special for me to score my first goal for Liverpool and it was a proud moment.

"We played with a young side and they showed a lot of character, especially to come back from 1-0 down and they did very well.

"It was a good night for the club and I was happy to see the young players get their chance and show what they can do. I was impressed with Jack Robinson who did well at left-back but to be fair they all did very well.

"It was great to get the winning goal in front of the Liverpool supporters, who were fantastic. Full credit to Suso and Oussama (Assaidi) for creating the chance for me and I was the lucky one to score."

The on-loan Real Madrid midfielder revealed a pre-match chat with manager Brendan Rodgers played a big part in his opening goal.

He added: "The manager told us we have to shoot more when we get a sight of goal. I had some space and time and I know it was a mistake by their goalkeeper but if you don't shoot you don't score, so I was happy to see it go in."

The victory gives the squad great confidence ahead of Saturday's trip to Norwich City, and with Jonjo Shelvey serving a suspension, the No.4 is in line to get another chance to impress in the starting XI.

He said: "That's down to the manager who plays but I am enjoying playing in this team. I love playing good football and this team gives me the chance to do that.

"I just want to help the team and give my best when I get the chance and hopefully we can get another victory on Saturday."
