Agger: This is the right way
Daniel Agger is confident that victories are on their way for Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League and has revealed his personal pleasure at the style of football being introduced by Brendan Rodgers.
The Dane has been a regular starter in central defence since the Northern Irishman arrived at Anfield, although the Reds have yet to record a win in the top flight.
However, Agger has backed Rodgers' passing and pressing philosophy as the 'right way' for Liverpool to play and expects results to come sooner rather than later.
"I like the manager's system and his style of football," the 27-year-old, who is approaching 200 appearances for the club, explained to the Daily Post.
"It's the kind of system I like to play so I'm more than happy. And I also think it's the right way for Liverpool Football Club - it's the style of football Liverpool should play.
"Of course the most important thing is to get the results but if you can do that and at the same time play with a good style of football, good possession and aggression, that's a bonus."
Now into his eighth season at Anfield, the centre-back is a senior figure in a squad which has been infused with a fresh batch of youngsters for the 2012-13 campaign.
Agger has no qualms about the likes of 17-year-old Raheem Sterling and the club's youngest ever player at the age of 16, Jerome Sinclair, being promoted to the first team.
The former Brondby man continued: "The age of the team doesn't matter. The only thing that really matters is the quality in the team, not the individual or average age.
"It doesn't matter if you're 17 or 27, if the quality is there you have the right to be here.
"I think that's the most important thing to get across because if that quality is right, the only way you get experience is by playing the games."
Despite a series of encouraging performances, the Reds have had to make do with two draws from their opening five league fixtures, but Agger says the team always knew there would be a period of transition.
"It has been difficult but we knew that before we started," he added. "We knew that we were trying to adapt to a new system and a new way of playing, so it was going to take some time.
"But I really think we are moving forward now. We dominated the fixture last weekend [against Manchester United] but at the end of the day we need to start collecting some points.
"The most important thing is always the three points and we haven't got any of them yet, but I do feel confident that we are getting there.
"I see signs every day in training and in the game that we are going the right way. We need to be a little bit more clinical and make sure we get the result when we deserve it. When the game is there to be won, we have to make sure we do that."
