The 'Stuart Quinn Player of the Season Award' was presented to Martin Skrtel by members of the Liverpool Disabled Supporters at the end of last month at a special Anfield gala event.

The Slovakian emerged as the fans' favourite following a poll that canvassed the Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association's vast membership which has now grown to over 400.

The first player to receive the honour since it was renamed earlier this year, Skrtel was full of smiles as he collected his trophy from the parents of Stuart Quinn, a founding member of the association, who sadly passed away on Boxing Day 2011.

Ella and Chris handed over the glistening prize, named in Stuart's honour, to the delighted defender at the ceremony in the centenary lounge on September 27.

His sister Laura, brother Dominic and Laura's partner Gavin were all in attendance on the evening and afterwards his family had this message for the LDSA committee and its members: "We know that Stu would be ecstatic with the award being named after him and for him to be honoured by the kind gesture.

"Stu was a Liverpool fanatic and started going to the match when he was three years of age, he travelled across Europe supporting the team and was often seen on television sitting in his Kop place behind the goal.

"He was an active member of the Disabled Association and represented it in meetings at the Houses of Parliament. He really appreciated and enjoyed being part of the group and he especially enjoyed meeting the players at the  Association dinners.

"Thanks to the committee for all the hard work they do and many thanks to all."
