Joe Allen believes Liverpool's performances so far this season are deserving of a higher position in the Barclays Premier League – but he's confident they'll soon start to ascend the table.

The Reds currently sit in 14th having garnered six points from their seven matches so far, though displays against the likes of Manchester City, Sunderland and Manchester United have perhaps warranted more than the two draws they ultimately yielded.

Nonetheless, Allen is convinced Brendan Rodgers' side are heading in the right direction.

"The table doesn't reflect some of the performances and the things that have happened to Liverpool this season," he said. "With change at a football club it does take a while for things to embed and settle in.

"Liverpool is full of world-class players and I'm privileged to play alongside them. I'm looking forward to a successful season.

"You can really see the style of play is coming into its own. The performance at Norwich typified that so I'm looking forward to the club climbing up the table."

He added: "To get the chance to move to a club like Liverpool was a great opportunity. I've really enjoyed my time there so far and am looking forward to the future with the club."

Fresh from being crowned as the Welsh Footballer of the Year for 2012, Allen is currently with his international team as they gear up for Friday night's World Cup qualifier with Scotland in Cardiff.

Wales suffered back-to-back defeats to Belgium and Serbia last time out, and the Reds midfielder is determined to ensure they get their campaign back on track.

He said: "It will be a big night. We do not want to heap too much pressure on ourselves as footballers or as a team, but we have to make sure that our preparations are perfect going into the game.

"It was a bad day at the office [against Serbia]. Everyone will be striving as hard as they can to make sure we put that straight in Friday's game."
