A 96-mile charity walk from Hillsborough to Anfield has been arranged for December to raise money on behalf of the Hillsborough Family Support Group and Hillsborough Justice Campaign.

The Rose Walk, which will begin on the morning of December 14, starts at the Leppings Lane end of Hillsborough Stadium and concludes with 96 roses being laid at the Hillsborough memorial at Anfield the following day.

A core team of 12 people will complete the walk, with three members at a time taking on six-mile stages and the overall crew joining together for the finish.

All of those taking part are Liverpool supporters, with many based outside the city but determined to contribute to the memory of the 96 people who lost their lives in 1989.

Along the lengthy journey, the home grounds of Bolton Wanderers, Bury, Everton, Huddersfield Town, Oldham Athletic, Manchester City and Wigan Athletic will be visited.

The walk will include a number of guest appearances, with former Reds players Dominic Matteo and Neil Mellor among those who have confirmed their participation.

Mike Wilson, a survivor of the disaster, has jointly organised the event and will be joined by his 81-year-old father, Dave, a lifelong Liverpool supporter, for the closing stage of the walk.

The idea for the walk was formed following the Reds' 1-1 draw against Sunderland in September, and more than £1,000 has already been raised.
