Here are the best pre-match facts compiled by LFC statto Ged Rea ahead of the Anzhi clash...

Jonjo Shelvey has scored three goals in his last 105 minutes of European action. He is the joint top scorer in the group stages so far along with Napoli's Eduardo Vargas.

Anzhi will be the seventh successive opponent that Liverpool are meeting in Europe for the first time and the 118th in total.

In the nine European games Anzhi have ever played they have yet to lose away from home and have only conceded two goals - Bert Konterman of Rangers and, this season, Antonio Di Natale (Udinese).

Samuel Eto'o has scored 42 goals in 92 club games in Europe and has made just one appearance against Liverpool. That came in Barcelona's 1-0 win here in March 2007, though the Reds won the Champions League tie. He has won the European Cup three times in total with two different clubs. Five of his seven goals in Europe this season have come away from home.

The defeat by Udinese three weeks ago was only Liverpool's second in the last 21 European games.

Anzhi's Yuri Zhirkov was in the CSKA Moscow team that lost to Liverpool in the 2005 European Super Cup final and also faced the Reds while with Chelsea.

Stewart Downing has made more assists (3) than any other player in the Europa League.

Jose Enrique could play his 50th game for Liverpool in all competitions.

Only once before have Liverpool lost successive home games in Europe - they were beaten by Lyon and Fiorentina in the Champions League in 2009.

Group A has more goals after two matchdays than any other section - 17.

Anzhi had four coaches last season. They even appointed a coach on a five-year contract before sacking him in February without taking charge of a game - Yuri Krasnozhan. He was replaced by Guus Hiddink.

This is only their second season in Europe. The first was back in 2001-02 when they met Rangers in the UEFA Cup. Due to the disturbances in Chechnya the tie against Rangers was played as a one-off game in Warsaw with the Scottish side winning 1-0. Liverpool were the competition's defending champions.

The Reds have scored seven goals in Group A so far - the most of any of the 48 teams along with Marseille. It is the most Liverpool have ever scored in their opening two group fixtures.

Anzhi's Christopher Samba has played eight times against Liverpool (all with Blackburn) recording one win, in Roy Hodgson's last game in charge in January 2011.

Jordan Henderson could play the 150th game of his club career.

Anzhi Makhachkala was founded in 1991 and the following season played in the Russian Second Division.

They have never won major silverware though they did win the Second Division title in 1999 and 2009 and were beaten in the cup final in 2001 - losing on penalties to Lokomotiv.

Last season they finished in fifth place in the league with no team in the top eight winning as few games away as Anzhi (they won four in the regular season and two more in the Championship group when the league was split into the top eight/bottom eight after 30 matches).

Coach Guus Hiddink was in charge of Chelsea when they eliminated Liverpool from the Champions League in 2009, winning 3-1 at Anfield and drawing 4-4 in the return. He has won six league titles in his career as a club coach.

Last weekend they came from behind to beat Spartak Moscow 2-1 after ex-Everton player Diniyar Bilyaletdinov had opened the scoring. Lacina Traore equalised before an own goal secured all three points for Anzhi.

They are top of the Russian League at the moment having taken 29 points out of a possible 36.
