Colin Pascoe has revealed his anticipation for today's Merseyside derby and insisted that matches against Everton are about more than just three points.

The Reds are set for their first encounter with the side from across Stanley Park since the assistant manager and Brendan Rodgers arrived at Anfield.

Pascoe may not have experienced a Merseyside derby match before, but the Welshman already knows exactly what the result means to Liverpool supporters.

"Of course any derby will be a tough game and again it will be no different," Pascoe told Liverpoolfc.com.

"You want players to realise what a derby means - it's not just another three points, it means a hell of a lot for the fans to win the game and we'll all be aware of trying to win the game on Sunday.

"I know, even on the outside watching games, it has been one of those derbies where you don't want to lose the game. It's as simple as that.

"You want to perform, but more importantly you don't want to lose it. I'm really looking forward to it."

Everton will be without the suspended Steven Pienaar for the clash at Goodison Park, while Marouane Fellaini remains doubtful with a knee injury - absences which Pascoe describes as a 'bonus'.

Rodgers' right-hand man added: "He [Pienaar] is a very good player and for the opposition to lose one of their best players is great for us.

"Fellaini has been injured, I'm not quite sure if he might be back for the game on Sunday. That would be a big bonus for ourselves - their best players either injured or suspended."

With regards to his own team, Pascoe expects an intense battle but hopes that the fact Raheem Sterling scored his first ever goal in a Liverpool shirt for the U18s against Everton will prove a lucky omen.

"It will be very heated," he concluded. "If the young lads are involved, I'm sure they will be looking forward to it. Getting his first league goal last weekend will give him [Sterling] a lot of confidence and hopefully that is a good omen."
