Suarez crowned by German Reds
Luis Suarez was named Player of the Year for 2011-12 by the 'German Reds' official LFC Supporters' Club, while Martin Kelly won the Young Player of the Year accolade.
The branch consists of supporters of Liverpool and Borussia Moenchengladbach, who have built up a great relationship since the famous meeting of the two teams in the 1977 European Cup final in Rome.
This year's event was once again held at the Sandon pub in Liverpool on Saturday, October 20, and branch secretary Graham Agg declared the evening "an outstanding success".
A fantastic night was had by all with guest speakers and music. First to speak to the assembled audience was the 'Voice of Anfield' George Sephton, who this year celebrated 41 years as the LFC stadium announcer.
The members also heard from Tom Smith, a lifelong Manchester City fan. Smith was the man that started an online petition in 2005, two days after LFC won their fifth European cup v AC Milan.
The online petition was called www.fairplaytoliverpool.co.uk which he started in protest at UEFA's decision not to allow LFC to defend their trophy that they won so gloriously during that May night in Istanbul. The petition collected more than 100,000 signatures in just two days which he then forwarded on to UEFA. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Mike Lepic, spokesman for Jamie Carragher's 23 Foundation, also addressed the assembled audience to tell them about the fantastic work going on in the community.
The evening was rounded off with live music entertainment by the 'Hehner Hof Duo'.
